Michael Lashman
For 3 years I was trained by an old school installer of the industry in carpet installations. I learned all phases of installations, including sewing carpet using latex to put the seams together. I retired from the installation industry in 2008 with 23 years of experience. In early 2002 I decided to become a flooring inspector.
I have seen so many installer mistakes due to insufficient training. Many Installers are taught by a family member or a friend, and many of them were never really taught the manufacture specs for the correct way to install specific flooring product.
As a flooring inspector I will evaluate the installation procedures and provide an evaluation.
What is a Certified Flooring Inspector?
A Certified Inspector is trained to inspect all aspects of flooring from the manufacturer’s specifications of each type of flooring products.
Certified Inspectors are trained to provide a professional written report of and detailing the overall issues of the flooring, observations and tests performed.
The report will show in most cases the responsible party.
The Manufacturer: Is responsible for defects in the floor that are visible or latent.
The Installer: Is responsible for installations that are not industry standards or manufacture specifications.
The Consumer: Is responsible for any problems related to poor maintenance or damage.
The Specifier: Is responsible for any product which installed or placed in use for which it is not designed.
Acts of Nature: Are defined as situations and or conditions beyond control of man.
EDUCATION:
2004 - Pergo Inspector
2005 - Armstrong Hardwood Flooring Inspector
2005 – IIRCRC Institute of Inspection Cleaning & Restoration Certification
Contracted as an installer for:
Home Depot, Lowes,
Medallion Paint Centers.
Inspection Fees: Are listed below for
Carpet, Hard Surfaces, VCT, Vinyl, Laminate, Wood.
Ripples in carpet is usually due to improper stretching of the carpet and the installer not using or not properly using a power stretcher
Extreme moisture caused this flooring to buckle in the middle of the floor. It is so important for the installer to check the substrate for pre moisture tests to make sure the substrate is with in the manufactures specs.
Extreme moisture caused VCT flooring to ooze glue out around the seams. This is due to high moisture and did not allow the glue to dry properly. Again make sure the installer tests for pre moisture tests the substrate and make sure it is with in the manufactures specs.
There are many reasons for end board gapping, improper installation, the locking mechanism has broke and moisture.

High moister from the slab caused this flooring to have end peaking and cupping.
